Phyllostachys aurea ‘Koi’
Koi Golden Bamboo

Only available at the nursery - check availability

The cultivars of Phyllostachys aurea are the few timber bamboos that do not need to be physically restrained in our mild maritime climate. (May need a barrier in warmer summer climates.) The new culms do not run far from the clump. Koi has bright golden culms, but with an attractive green stripe running down each stem. Mature culms in ideal conditions may reach 25' in height, usually shorter. Tolerant of most soil conditions.
Available only for pickup.

Hardy to 0°F.

# pakoi

Bamboo Barrier Notes

Running bamboos can be contained with a variety of methods. One easy method is to dig a trench along the border of the area you want to fill with bamboo, and line the trench with a material such as aluminum roof flashing or 40mil plastic. Leave a 2"-3" lip above the ground, and check it annually for straying rhizomes. In average to poor soil, 18"-24" of barrier depth works well. In good soil, 24"-36" may be necessary. Keeping your bamboo well watered will also limit its running.
